How do I create my account?
You should receive an invite link from your teaching staff. Simply follow the link to set up your account and start getting to know your classmates.
Make sure you use a real email address that you own. You'll be sent a code during the registration process and will need to access your email to retrieve the code. Depending on how your teacher has set up Gameface, you may be required to use the email address that was provided to you by your university/school.
During the registration process you'll be asked to provide a selfie, so make sure you use a device that has a camera built in.
Why do I need to take a selfie?
If your teacher requires a selfie, it's because they want to provide a friendly environment where people know each other's names and feel comfortable working with and learning from each other. University is a big place, and it is all too easy to feel anonymous and left out unless both staff and students make a concerted effort to create a sense of community.
Sharing a photo of yourself might seem scary, but please bear in mind that these will only be used in the context of a classroom where everyone will be able to see your face anyway.
A few reassurances:
- Your photo will be shown on the main screen in front of the class, but only as a small icon next to everyone else. Your photo will never be singled out and enlarged on the main screen.
- Your photo will be viewable by other students when they use Gameface, but only if they attend a class with you and are allocated to a group with you, or if they accept the same invite as you.
- Your photo will be viewable by teaching staff when they use Gameface, but only if they have taught you directly or are directly involved in a subject that you are enrolled in.
The only purpose of these selfies is to help you and the other people in the class to put names to faces. Your photo will never be shared with any other third parties (other than students and teaching staff) without your direct permission, and will never be used in any promotional material.
What if I don't have a device with a camera?
If you don't have device with a camera, don't worry. Just click through to the point where it asks you to take a photo, and then click Request Selfie instead.
This will show a QR code that is unique to you. If you show that QR code to someone else with a smartphone, they will be able to scan it and follow the prompts to take a selfie for you. You'll be able to review the photo that they take of you so don't worry about being stuck with an unflattering one!
